James Tolkan, the actor best known for his role as the strict Professor Strickland in the 'Back to the Future' trilogy, has died at the age of 94.

Tolkan's death was only reported this week, despite occurring last Thursday in Saranac Lake, New York. He will be remembered for bringing a sense of authenticity and menace to his roles, and for his enduring impact on a generation of moviegoers who grew up with 'Back to the Future'.
