Jim Carrey to Star in Live-Action ‘The Jetsons’ Adaptation

Warner Bros. has officially announced that Jim Carrey will lead a live-action adaptation of the classic animated series, ‘The Jetsons.’ The news follows months of speculation and previous, unconfirmed reports from last fall.

Carrey’s Return to the Big Screen

This marks Carrey’s first project outside of the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ franchise in over a decade, since 2016’s ‘Dark Crimes.’ He is currently slated to reprise his role as Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4,’ scheduled for release in 2027.

Carrey recently sparked online rumors regarding his appearance in France, leading to speculation about an impersonator or clone. He explained his return to the ‘Sonic’ universe by stating he “bought a load of stuff and simply needs the money.”

‘The Jetsons’ Reboot History

‘The Jetsons,’ originally airing in 1962, is a sci-fi counterpart to ‘The Flintstones,’ and has seen numerous attempts at a reboot over the past two decades. Previous efforts, including a planned live-action film in the early 2000s, and even involvement from Kanye West at one point, never materialized. Warner Bros. has consistently explored the idea of bringing the futuristic family to the big screen, with various concepts including an animated film directed by the creator of ‘Sausage Party’ and a live-action sitcom from Robert Zemeckis.
