After a decade-long hiatus, the Jump Street franchise is gearing up for a revival, and it’s bringing back the core trio: Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube. Variety reports that development is underway for Jump Street 24, with the actors currently in negotiations to return.

A shift in direction: rothman takes the helm

This time around, the directing duties are changing hands. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who steered the previous installments, are stepping aside, allowing Rodney Rothman – fresh off his work on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse – to take the reins. Rothman will collaborate with Hill and Meghan Malloy on the script, promising a distinctly different approach.

The title, Jump Street 24, is a clever nod to a meta-moment in Jump Street 22. Remember that extended montage of potential sequels? The suggestion of Jump Street 23, set in a medical school, was a knowing wink to the audience – a detail that’s now being fully embraced.

A decade of waiting

The project has languished in development hell for a considerable time. At one point, whispers circulated about a crossover with Men in Black, but that concept ultimately stalled. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of Jump Street that it’s managed to resurface, despite the diminished brand recognition of its potential partner.

The series, which has consistently paired Tatum and Hill as undercover cops navigating the chaotic world of schools, faces a unique challenge. With Tatum now 46 and Hill at 42, the established comedic dynamic will need to be carefully considered – though, given the franchise’s self-aware nature, incorporating this element into the humor seems entirely plausible.
