Nolan's odyssey nears three-hour mark

Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's Odyssey is shaping up to be a marathon cinematic experience. According to IMAX and AMC Theatres, the film will clock in at a whopping 2 hours and 53 minutes, mere minutes shy of the three-hour mark.

Odyssey's runtime pushes nolan's boundaries

This runtime makes The Odyssey Nolan's second-longest film, only behind Oppenheimer which exacts three hours on the dot. Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises trail behind at 2 hours and 49 minutes and 2 hours and 45 minutes, respectively.

Nolan's preference for shooting on IMAX film often keeps his movies under three hours, as the physical platters that hold the reels can't withstand anything beyond that. However, for Oppenheimer, he had to work with IMAX to slightly extend the platters to accommodate the longer runtime.

Whether Nolan had to make any cuts to fit The Odyssey's massive story within its new limitations remains unclear, but fans can expect an immersive and visually stunning experience nonetheless.
