“’Volare’ was created in a studio in Mexico. The melody came from ukulele chords and the lyrics were inspired by a conversation we had about long distance relationships separated by oceans, specifically the Atlantic Ocean. I was inspired by a trip I took to Italy 3 years ago that was amazing, I called a friend whose family is from Italy and asked him to help me with some Italian words. My best friend, who is also Italian, sent me a voice note of him asking her grandmother what her love meant to her, and we added it to the end of the song. It practically flowed naturally from there,” Explain Ocean about how the song came about.
The video begins in black and white in a vast forest and follows an elegant Danny Ocean who seeks to reunite with his love. The video turns to color as he approaches her and at the moment they meet they start to fly, a symbol of all the feelings related to love and the anxiety of reuniting with a lover who lives far away from her. The visuals were recorded in Mexico City and directed by rodrigo rodriguez.
