A source close to the production of the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards revealed to the British newspaper DailyMail that the American singer Fergie will give a surprise performance at the famous awards ceremony that takes place tonight.

The insider confirmed that the singer has been rehearsing for several days at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, which will be her first live performance in four years.

At the event, rap star Nicki Minaj will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which is presented to artists for outstanding contributions and a profound impact on music videos and popular culture.

Nicki will also perform a medley of some of her greatest hits influenced by her catalog of music videos.

For their part, rock legends the Red Hot Chili Peppers will also perform as they will be honored with the Global Icon Award. The recognition celebrates ‘an artist or band whose unparalleled career, ongoing impact and influence have sustained a unique level of global success in music and beyond, leaving an indelible mark on the music landscape.’

As for regular awards, there’s a three-way tie for most nominations between Lil Nas X, Kendrick Lamar, and Jack Harlow. The three hip-hop singers are closely followed by Doja Cat and Harry Styles, who each received six nominations.

The list of five award nominees includes: Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd. The group or duo with the most nominations were K-pop sensations BTS, who got four. MTV expanded the number of nominees for its top award, video of the year, to seven for the first time in its 39-year history. Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Alternative have also been expanded to seven nominees.

In the main award of the night, video of the year, are nominated: Doja Cat – Woman, Drake ft. Future & Young Thug – Way 2 Sexy, Ed Sheeran – Shivers, Harry Styles – As It Was, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow – Industry Baby, Olivia Rodrigo – brutal, and Taylor Swift – All Too Well (10 minute version) ( Taylor’s version). If Lil Nas X wins, he will be the first artist to win back-to-back awards in the searched category. Bad Bunny is the first Latino artist to be nominated for artist of the year, as he will go up against Ed Sheeran, Drake, Styles, Harlow, Lil Nas X and Lizzo.

Rift Tour with Ariana Grande | Fortnite and Twenty One Pilots Concert Experience | Roblox.

Musical performances will also be a big part of the event, as Lizzo will perform 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready). K-pop mega-group Blackpink will also be performing their just-released mega-hit ‘Pink Venom’. Anitta, J Balvin, Kane Brown, Jack Harlow, Khalid and Marshmello, Måneskin and Panic! At The Disco will take the stage during the show.
