The Jackson family dynasty is one of the greatest in entertainment history. She has given birth to several generations of stars, the oldest being brothers Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. Depending on who you ask, their careers are on the same level. The King of Pop and Janet gave the world a gift in 1995 when they released their only duet song, “Scream.” The lyrics to “Scream” detail a difficult time in Michael’s life. Janet recently revealed that the accompanying music video is one of the most expensive ever made.
Janet Jackson Says Her Brother Wrote The Song In Response To Child Abuse Allegations Against Him
The song “Scream” details the frustration with the media coverage and the paparazzi, so much so that it makes its subjects literally want to scream. In the song, Michael sings:
Tired of injustice / Tired of schemes / Lies are disgusting / So what does it mean? / Damn / Kicking don / I have to get up / As fucked up as it sounds / The whole system sucks / Damn.

Janet told MTV News in 2009 that Michael was inspired to write the song due to the continuing allegations of child abuse against him. “’Scream’, there was a lot going on at the time,” he said. “That’s when… I hate to say this, but… the first accusations [of child molestation] came out and everything. He was very upset and very angry and had so much pent up in him that he wanted to come out and say. And when you listen to the lyrics, that’s what it’s about ”.
Janet says that the lyrics of the song have a double meaning to her. “I played the role that I have always played in his life: his little sister who was by his side, who supported him no matter what,” he said. “That’s what ‘Scream’ was to me.”
She says the music video cost millions because the filming went beyond schedule.
The music video for “Scream” was shot in black and white. It is a futuristic theme with the famous brothers dancing next to each other in certain sequences. The video also features gravity-defying camera tricks, including the two upside down and sideways at some points.

“It was only supposed to be like a two-day session,” Janet told Allure magazine in a recent interview. «[The video] It ended up being seven days. Because the schedule was exceeded, the price was higher. It was a $ 7 million video. I didn’t have to pay, Mike did, ”Janet added with a laugh.
She only has fond memories of the video production. “It was fun going into the studio and dancing together because we hadn’t done it since I was a kid,” she said. “We used to dance together all the time, that was a lot of fun.”
Janet Jackson paid tribute to Michael Jackson by performing the song live after his death.
The brother-sister couple did not perform the song live together. But after Michael’s death in 2009, Janet paid a special tribute during the MTV Video Music Awards the same year.
Janet performed the iconic dance sequence alongside Michael, courtesy of a split-screen tech on stage. The performance garnered a standing ovation. The music video won a 1995 VMA Award for Best Dance Video.
