Luis Gerardo Mendez, who has positioned himself as one of the most popular actors of the last decade, said that his arrival at stardom was not an easy thing. In a recent interview, the important actor detailed how he experienced the beginning of his career and the time he was rejected in a casting by Music Television (MTV).

It was in an interview with standup Mexican, Ricardo O’Farrill on his channel Youtube, Comedy TV House, that the one in charge of giving life to Chava Iglesias in the series of Netflix, Raven Clubs, he recalled when he was a huge fan of the music network: “What happened is that I was a big fan of MTV, I wanted VJ, that was my dream. When I was 18 I wanted to be Arturo Hernández, like those VJs from the 90s ″, he recalled.

The video-jockey (VJ) were the conductors who acted as the main link between the fans and the production to make the bands known, explain the trends and present the video clips when the internet was just beginning and there was no YouTube.

Luis Gerardo recalled that when he was a young man and still studying in high school he found out that mtv He was going to audition for a new VJ, so he asked his parents for the opportunity to move to Mexico City.

“One day MTV wanted new VJs and they auditioned at the Palacio de los Deportes. We were like 2 thousand people who wanted to be VJs and I stayed in the last 5″ he added.

From the beginning he was selected as a finalist along with five other young people: “The MTV guys flew me from Aguascalientes to their forums, I had to interview Molotov, it was like you were a VJ for a day. I interviewed Molotov, they dressed me cool, I presented videos next to the other finalists”, he told Ricardo O’Farrill.

The actor who gave life to Victor Tapia in the series drug lords mexicoexplained wistfully that he briefly experienced fame: “They made pieces with it and people voted for the VJ who was going to stay. I became the most popular guy in Aguascalientes at that time, it was like: ‘This guy is going to be a VJ on MTV‘” said the 39-year-old interpreter.

To finish, the actor from Aguascalientes, reported that after doing the last test he did not manage to keep the position and when he arrived in his hometown, he went from being someone in the media to being rejected by those close to him: “And what do you think? I didn’t stay. Afterwards he wasn’t the most popular, he was the one nobody wanted to say hello to. It’s very hard”, he recalled.

There the Mexican actor decided to take the most important step of his acting career, moving to Mexico City: “After this experience, imagine sitting in my accounting class again and I cheated on my parents […] I decided to come here (Mexico City) and in the morning I studied acting, in the afternoon marketing and at night I did castings for commercials to support myself”, he concluded.

It was not until 2003 when Luis Gerardo had the opportunity to make his debut on television playing a secondary role in Thief of Hearts. The first appearance of him on the big screen would come the following year in the tape Pilgrim Saints (2004). However, it was until 2013 when he consolidated with the character of Javier Noble in the movie We the noble (2013) by Gary Alazraki.

There Luis Gerardo showed his enormous talent in dramatic art and from that moment the Mexican actor managed to position himself in the taste of the Mexican population.
