Maluma and CNCO join the MTV VMAs 2020

MTV announced on August 11, that the Colombian singer Malumathe group of young Latinos CNCO Y The Weeknd They will be part of the artists that will participate in this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

In a statement, organizers said of this event, “The 2020 MTV VMAs will take place on Sunday, August 30, and will pay tribute to New York’s incredible resiliency with several outdoor performances with limited or no audience, adhering to all state and municipal guidelines. In close consultation with state and local health officials, it was clear at this time that outdoor performances with limited or no audience would be more feasible and safer than an indoor event.”

As the world is changing due to the pandemic, the 2020 MTV VMAs have changed too, which is why two new categories were added for this edition: Best Music Video From Home and Best Performance During Quarantine. In this last category are nominees, Lady Gaga for his participation with the song “Smile” in the broadcast “One World: Together at Home”, and John Legend for the concerts he broadcast under the name “Together At Home”.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony will be held without an audience, but it will still feature the performances of various artists, since in addition to Maluma, they are confirmed, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, billie eilish, Taylor Swift, J Balvin, bts, Doja Catamong others.

This year’s nominations are led by Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, both with nine; They are also contending for the Video of the Year award for their collaboration on the “Rain on Me” video clip.

The second artists with the most nominations are The Weeknd and Billie Eilish with six each, in addition to competing for Video of the Year with their songs “Everything I Wanted” and “Blinding Lights”. Also in this list are Taylor Swift with “The Man”, future and drake for “Life Is Good” and Eminem with “Godzilla”.

Other contenders for the awards are Rick with three nominations, CNCO with two and Maluma, who only got one in the Best Latin Video category for “Qué Pena”.
