Maluma shone at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards winning his first statuette in the “Best Latin” category for his single and video “Qué Pena” with J Balvin, which was chosen by fans as the best of the songs nominated in the Latin category this year.

Maluma performed at a colorful and electrifying ’90s-inspired Miami Vice-style drive-in concert to sing his global hit, “Hawái,” from his new fifth album Papi Juancho. This was Maluma’s first official presentation on stage performing “Hawái” since the pandemic began. The show was held in a private location, where fans enjoyed her performance in a safe environment from their cars with a view of the iconic New York City skyline.

Maluma appeared on a motorcycle with a stage full of neon lights, palm trees and surrounded by dancers wearing bathing suits printed with the name “Papi Juancho” thus generating a set with a Miami atmosphere.

“Tonight is a moment I will never forget. I thank my fans for voting and making ‘Que Pena’ win a legendary moon person for my hometown Medellin. As artists, we have worked hard to represent Latinos worldwide and tonight this victory represents that united we are stronger, together for our culture. Being on stage for the first time since the pandemic hit was truly amazing. I felt like I was home again and I am grateful to MTV for having me back to perform since my first appearance at the 2018 VMAs. With my performance, I wanted to convey positive energy with a vibrant set for my fans who watched from home.” ; Maluma said.

It is worth mentioning that his double-breasted anise green silk suit and collarless silk shirt combined with his Balmain sneakers is his first haute couture design made by him together with Olivier Rousteing, creative director of BALMAIN. Olivier was inspired by Maluma when he participated in the Men’s Resort 2021 brand launch in June 2020 and felt that a design collaboration for a look would be perfect with the launch of “Hawái” and Papi Juancho. The complete custom design will be part of the Balmain Spring-Summer 2021 collection and will debut again at the Balmain show during Paris Fashion Week on October 2, 2020.

“Designing my look for this presentation with Olivier was also a fashion achievement for what is to come. Olivier knows the value of bringing a story and a brand to life. He visually understands the long-term goals of who I am. He touched me that he had a vision of who ‘Papi Juancho’ is and he managed to bring back the vibe of the 90’s with me. For us it was important to bring the bright colors, the good and nostalgic moments during these unprecedented times”, commented Maluma regarding this topic.
