A long list of the most prominent figures in music, such as Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Maluma or BTS, will participate this August 30 in the awarding of the MTV Video Music Awards 2020, in a completely different ceremony due to the pandemic and that will be celebrated with several open-air concerts in different parts of New York.
As a novelty, two categories designed specifically for the coronavirus pandemic have been added: Best Home Music Video and Quarantine Performance. The public already counts the hours to see the performances of their favorite stars.
THE NOMINEES
In the 2020 edition, Gaga and Grande lead the nominations with nine nominations each, including their joint hit “Rain On Me” which could rise as video and song of the year.
Behind them are Billie Eilish and The Weeknd, with six nominations each, and Taylor Swift, with five mentions in the MTV VMA’s 2020, as his acclaimed latest work, “Folklore”, was released after the deadline.
By category, the candidates for the best video clip of the year are, in addition to “Rain On Me”, “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish, “Blinding Lights” by The Weekend, “The Man” by Taylor Swift, “Life Is Good” by Future ft. Drake and “Godzilla” by Eminem ft. Juice WRLD.
Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone, Da Baby and The Weeknd will compete to be named artist of the year.
LATIN RHYTHM
Among Latinos, J Balvin is nominated in four categories of the MTV Video Music Awards 2020, three for best Latin video and one for his collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas in “Ritmo (Bad Boys For Life)”.
In the category of Best Latin video, the Colombian starts as a favorite with three mentions: One for his song “Amarillo” and another two for collaborating with Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, Ozuna and Karol G in “China” on the one hand, and on the other with Maluma in “Qué Pena”.
“Tusa” by Karol G and Nicki Minaj, “Yo Perreo Sola” by Bad Bunny and “Mamacita” by Black Eyed Peas ft. Ozuna & J. Rey Soul complete the section.
THE PERFORMERS
Although MTV originally announced that the ceremony would take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn without the attendance of the public, this changed. Now open-air concerts will be held throughout New York with few or no attendees.
Among the planned actions, the group of K-Pop BTS, which debuts on the VMA 2020 stage, and which presents for the first time on television its new single “Dynamite”; Miley Cyrus, who just released her song “Midnight Sky”; and Lady Gaga, who has performed at the event for the first time since 2013, will join Ariana Grande in singing “Rain on Me.”
Also performing will be Doja Cat, The Weeknd, Maluma, DaBaby, and the Latin band CNCO, as well as the Black Eyed Peas.
The performance of J Balvin and Roddy Rich, but both recently announced that they were withdrawing from the MTV Video Music Awards 2020, citing the latest “compliance issues”. (EFE)
