Rosalía becomes the first Spanish to win an MTV Video Music Awards thanks to ‘Con Altura’

Swift was one of the great protagonists and the video for her song ‘You Need to Calm Down’ he took two of the recognitions most coveted of the night: that of best video of the year and that of best video “for good”, for a charitable cause.

His single, an “anti-hate anthem” brought the political message to the stage, demanding the approval of an “Equality Law” that guarantees that everyone has the same rights.

With tears in her eyes, Swift declared that “There is still a petition in favor of the Equality Law that basically says that we all deserve the same rights before the law,” said the artist, surrounded by a group of LGTBI activists who, previously, had acted with her at the opening of the show.

Swift was not the only one who wanted the music and her video to have a loudspeaker that night, with J Balvin, who left Rosalía alone on stage and performed ‘Qué pretendes’ with the Puerto Rican Bad Bunny, asking for help against the Amazon catastrophe .

“We need help for the Amazon because it is burning”he said, claiming to be “super proud to be Latino right now.”

At night, however, music was the main protagonist, with a master of ceremonies, Sebastian maniscalco and a few presenters from each category of the level of Queen LaTifah, Billy Ray Cyrus, John Travolta or the original cast of “The Sopranos”.

The performances were not without a certain mischief and stuff for gossip, such as the sensual ‘Señorita’, which Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello performed for the first time in public – and which took the award to “Best collaboration”-, or Miley Cyrus, who sang ‘Slide Away’ in her first performance after her divorce from actor Liam Hemsworth.

From the rest of the honors, Grande took the prizes to “Artist of the Year” and “Summer song”, while the young promise Billie Eilish debuted with the recognition of “Best New Artist” and “Push Artist of the Year”.

The Jonas Brothers took home the award to “Best Pop”, while rapper Cardi B got the one of Best Hip Hop, thanks to his song ‘Money’.
