As part of the promotion of the movie “Marry Me”, Jennifer Lopez shared a series of photos that stunned her followers on Instagram. The singer posted outtakes from a session with the New York Times, showing off several striking and stylish looks.
One of them that specifically caught the attention of several fans: A sassy black dress with a vinyl top tied with a rope and a black skirt.
The outfit exposed the singer’s entire tummy, showing off her sculpted abs and perfectly accentuating her figure (swipe over photos to see the dress).
The bold dress not only caught the attention of the fans, but also that of the stylist Jomari Goyso, who opened the controversy on his Instagram profile by questioning whether the outfit looks vulgar.
“Do you think this look looks good or bad regardless of who wears it?” Asked the Univision stylist. “Or does it depend on the body of the person who puts it on? Or the pose? I don’t see it as vulgar in JLo, but I know that it is a trend that can be seen as vulgar (sic)”, questioned Jomari.
The stylist raised the questions and posted a video where you can see the dress in all its glory.
Jomari’s followers had divided opinions, some agreed with the stylist, stating that the garment looks very good on JLo, but that on other bodies it would not look the same for aesthetic issues and beauty standards.
Others were in favor of everyone being able to dress however they want, as long as it makes them happy.
Personally, I agree with the second group. If you want to wear a garment and you feel comfortable with it, go ahead. Beauty standards are difficult to achieve and although many clothes are created for one body type, if you feel comfortable in it, there is no reason to stop wearing it.
