The Asujazz 2021 festival continues with various proposals until December 19, at different points in downtown Asuncion.
In this sense, this Thursday, December 16, starting at 4:00 p.m., at the Municipal Institute of Art (Pdte. Franco esq. Montevideo) the renowned Italian jazz singer-songwriter Chiara Izzi, will give a masterclass of Jazz Vocals and an intimate Concert at the end for the participants.
Izzi has been based in New York City since 2014, three years after she was awarded her first award by Quincy Jones at the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition in 2011. In April 2020 she also won an Independent Music Award for the Best Vocal Jazz Song with his composition “Circles in my Mind”.
Since her arrival, she has become one of the most requested vocalists on the scene, having the opportunity to perform on prominent stages such as Iridium, Birdland, The Blue Note, The Kennedy Center, Smalls, 55 Bar, sharing the stage with figures like Kevin Hays, Leon Parker, Ken Peplowski, Diego Figueiredo, Jeff Hamilton, Aaron Goldberg, Bruce Barth, Eliot Zigmund, Warren Wolf, among others.
On the other hand, from 9:00 p.m. in the Baudilio Alió Room of the Municipal Theater of Asunción you can enjoy the Jazz piano solo concert by the renowned national pianists Magalí Benítez, Daniel Ayala and Rodrigo Quintás.
Magalí Benítez began studying piano at the age of 12. He studied at the National Conservatory of Music and at the Bachelor of Music at the National University of Asunción. He participated in international festivals as well as popular music courses in Brazil and the United States.
He currently works as a teacher at the National Conservatory of Music and at the Municipal Institute of Art. He also integrates as a keyboardist the popular instrumental music projects MAJUJA Trio and Band’Elaschica.
Daniel Ayala began his piano studies with his mother Elida Giménez, then with teacher Norma Velázquez and teacher José Luis Miranda. He received a Bachelor of Music from Pittsburg State University and a Master’s degree from Western Illinois University.
He has performed as a soloist with the OSCA and the South East Kansas Symphony Orchestra, in addition to performing as an opening act for the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and shared the stage with artists such as Dan Miller, Mark Tonelli, Don Norton, Aaron Kipola, Alan Baylock and others.
Rodrigo Quintás is a composer, pianist, orchestral arranger and teacher. Currently, he is working on his own compositions such as orchestral arrangements for ensembles (classical and popular) and local and international symphony orchestras. He also works as a piano and composition teacher.
With a recognized trajectory in the local jazz circuit, he has a vast journey through the stages as a soloist and also together with prominent artists of the genre.
The AsuJazz 2021 Festival is organized by the Directorate of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Asunción and the Centro Cultural Paraguayo Americano, with the support of Alianza Francesa de Asunción, the Instituto Cultural Paraguayo Alemán Goethe-Zentrum / ICPA-GZ, and the embassies of the Argentine Nation, Brazil, Italy, and France, in Paraguay.
