Universal pictures revives bon jovi biopic plans

Universal Pictures is officially moving forward with a long-gestating biopic about Bon Jovi, the iconic rock band responsible for anthems like "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive." The studio emerged victorious from a bidding war to resurrect the project, signaling a renewed interest in chronicling the formative years of one of rock's most enduring acts.

Biopic to chart bon jovi's rise

The film will focus on the band's development throughout the 1980s, a period when frontman Jon Bon Jovi (born John Bongiovi) solidified their place in Music history. Cody Brother, known for his screenwriting work on projects like Drudge and Killing Satoshi, has been tapped to pen the script. Producing the film are Kevin J. Walsh, whose credits include Manchester by the Sea and Napoleon, and Gotham Chopra, who previously produced Thank You, Goodnight: Bon Jovi Story.

Jacqueline Garell, Universal’s head of production, will oversee the project. A key element of Universal's successful bid was securing participation from Jon Bon Jovi himself, along with access to the band’s extensive musical library. Details regarding casting and a release date remain under wraps, but the studio’s commitment suggests a significant cinematic undertaking.

Bon Jovi burst onto the scene in 1984 with their self-titled debut, immediately releasing hits like "Runaway" and "Shot Through the Heart." The band remains active, with their most recent album, Forever, arriving in 2024.
