With three editions already made, the International Poetry Festival – FIP SANTIAGO 2021 It has been positioned as one of the most anticipated literary events, not only by poets but also by all those who in some way or another are attracted to the genre. Is that, from 2018 to date, FIP SANTIAGO has managed to successfully overcome different barriers, including confinement, becoming one of the few festivals worldwide that has not ceased due to the pandemic and that, on the contrary, has been strengthened. This is demonstrated by its previous edition in 2020, which was carried out 100% on-line and that has more than 50 thousand visits on its various platforms.
This year FIP SANTIAGO is preparing to surprise in its IV version in a blended way, carrying out interventions in different places between Santiago and Valparaíso, from December 9 to 12. It will feature a pre-release of Slam Poetry: inhabit poetic next to the magazine Endemic and with the presence of the young and renowned Haitian-French poet and slam Jean D’Amérique, on the 8th of the same month in the commune of Providencia.
This year’s programming revolves around the slogan #PalabraDePoeta and the event will feature the participation of 100 outstanding national and international poets invited from 5 continents, highlighting the virtual participation of the renowned artist, painter and poet Juan Carlos Mestre (Spain) and the visit of the American poet Forrest gander (2019 Pulitzer Prize), which has a strong bond with Chilean literature.
One of the central activities of this hybrid version will be, among others, the tribute to the poet Raul Zurita way to the Nobel Prize, honoring the trajectory of the outstanding national poet (2020 Reina Sofía Prize for Ibero-American Poetry, 2000 National Prize for Literature and 2016 Ibero-American Poetry Prize Pablo Neruda with conferences starring the author himself of Purgatory.

In its permanent search and incentive for gender parity in all its versions, FIP SANTIAGO considers in its 2021 program readings by outstanding poets Gioconda Belli (Nicaragua), Elvira Hernández (Chile), Olga Gutiérrez Galindo (Mexico), Yolanda Castaño (Galicia, Spain) and the Chilean visual artist and poet based in New York, Cecilia Vicuña; in addition to the First Nations poets the national award Elicura Chihuailaf, the poet Roxana Miranda Rupailaf and Juan Tomás Ávila Laurel (Equatorial Guinea).
“In the IV version of the FIP Santiago, we intend that that spirit of recollection and of being alone with oneself that the pandemic is leaving us, has as a counterpart the open expression of the diverse encounter of poetic voices from all over the world so that the word is the turning point but also of celebration ”, he says Javier Llaxacondor, poet and director of the FIP Santiago.
Other relevant activities will be the contest Poeta 100, outdoor recitals in various communes of Greater Santiago and the Constituent Convention, readings via Zoom on the Facebook platform and YouTube channel of FIP SANTIAGO, among others.
FIP SANTIAGO 2021 will be held from Thursday, December 9 to Sunday, December 12, with a pre-launch on December 8; with activities in the communes of Santiago Centro, El Bosque, El Monte, San Joaquín, San Bernardo, Renca, Lo Barnechea, Providencia, and a special session in Valparaíso in the gardens of the CasaBlu space.
