Duque participates in the Concordia Summit of the Americas in Miami

At the University of Miami, President Iván Duque participates as a guest speaker at the Concordia Summit of the Americas 2022. In a special session, the President will receive the ‘2022 Leadership Award’ and will intervene in the panel ‘The future of democracy in Latin America’, where he will explain the legacy left by his Government in social, economic and environmental matters.

The Concordia Summit of the Americas 2022 has the participation of political leaders, businessmen, and academics from the Western Hemisphere, and addresses issues related to democracy and security, environmental sustainability, digital transformation, and challenges and opportunities in post-pandemic times for the region.

In announcing the awarding of the 2022 Leadership Award, in the public sector category, to President Duque, the international organization Concordia said that it is a recognition of “his exceptional leadership and immeasurable contributions”, achieved “through his service during the last four years.”

Concordia highlighted his administration’s “support for Venezuelan refugees” and considered that “President Duque’s compassion and friendship have established a new international standard for humanitarian aid” and that “his efforts to depolarize politics in Colombia and move away from partisanship show their commitment to balanced governance and collaboration.”

Likewise, he highlighted that “President Duque also put environmental sustainability at the forefront of Colombia’s agenda, establishing an ambitious strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and, specifically, mobilizing climate financing at scale to accelerate the country’s transition towards a green future.

Concordia specified that, “crucially, in 2021, Duque made a historic commitment to declare 30% of its territory as a protected area by 2022, eight years ahead of schedule.”

He also highlighted “President Duque’s leadership as a senator, including his attention to bills that extend maternity leave, increase the availability of defibrillators and promote creative industries”, which demonstrates “his dedication to improve the quality of life of Colombians.
