HONG KONG, Dec. 6, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The Yidan Award Foundation, the global philanthropic foundation behind the world’s highest educational award, hosted the 2021 Yidan Award Summit and Awards Presentation Ceremony yesterday.
The global hybrid event brought together legislators and training experts to debate and discuss the world’s most pressing educational problems and practical and innovative solutions for a better future. The event also celebrated and formally recognized the pioneering work of this year’s Yidan Award winners.
In a series of panel discussions, attendees discussed new ideas to provide a fair, accessible and quality education for all. Topics included COVID-19 learning losses, scalable educational solutions, and learning through play. The UNESCO report on ‘Reimagining Our Future Together: A New Social Contract for Education’ was also discussed, and attendees discussed the importance of education in ensuring a prosperous future for children.
Summit ‘Creating a Better Future Through Education’
In a panel, the teacher Eric A. Hanushek, winner of the 2021 Yidan Award for research in education, and Paul and Jean Hanna Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution of the University of Stanford, highlighted the fundamental role of teachers in enriching the quality of education. The distinguished panel of economists called for more support for teachers who address knowledge gaps in children.
The doctor Rukmini banerji, a recipient of the 2021 Yidan Award for Educational Development and CEO of the Pratham Education Foundation, shared why she thinks children fall behind in school and if school curricula are too fast. The teacher Esther duflo and the teacher Abhijit banerjeeLaureates of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics, joined her to discuss how to implement meaningful changes in education – from developing scalable and effective solutions to tailoring the curriculum to the level of each child.
Panelists included Dr. Sobhi Tawil, Director of the Future of Learning and Innovation at UNESCO; the doctor Jaime Saavedra, Senior Director of Global Practice in Education, World Bank Group; and Professor Ludger Woessmann, professor of economics at the University of Munich, among others.
Celebrating 2021 Yidan Award Recipients
The event concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating the remarkable achievements of this year’s Yidan Award recipients. Professor Hanushek and Dr. Banerji were formally awarded the 2021 Yidan Award for Educational Research and Development in recognition of their pioneering work to improve the quality and outcomes of education for students on a large scale.
