Being the head of government of a country is not an easy job. Arduous travel away from family, enormous responsibilities and great amounts of stress are some of the problems that come with being the president of a nation. This is why it is common to see very marked changes between the first and last days of some presidents’ mandate.
Colombia has not been the exception and some of the former presidents look different. The change has not gone unnoticed by citizens who see a new person arrive every four years.
This is a tour of the before and after of some former heads of Colombian government.

Ivan Duke (2018 to 2022)

Iván Duque became president in 2018, led by the Democratic Center party, preceded by former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez. The Bogota native was 41 years old when he took office as president with the largest vote in the country’s history.

Álvaro Uribe Vélez became president of the country in 2002. He became the first candidate to be elected in the first round elections and in 2006 he repeated as president.

In 2010 Uribe supported the candidate Juan Manuel Santos.

Andres Pastrana (1998 to 2002)

Andrés Pastrana became president in 2002, after following in the footsteps of his father, Misael Pastrana. His government was recognized for attempts at dialogue with guerrilla groups.

In his government, Plan Colombia was managed and the failed peace process with the FARC in Caguán. His photograph was taken after his term ended.
