Jewish Link – Outrage over the awarding of the 2022 Nobel Prize for Literature to the 82-year-old French writer and professor of modern letters Annie Ernaux for her public anti-Semitic positions that she has maintained in recent years.

Ernaux has been a staunch advocate of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movementwhich aims to exert global pressure on Israelboth in the political and economic spheres, to achieve the end of the “occupation” Israeli and the “colonizationIsraeli of the Palestinian territories.

Different public facts of the anti-Israeli activity that he has carried out Ernaux are:

  • In May 2019, he signed a letter with more than 100 French artists calling for a boycott of the Eurovision song contest when it was held in Tel Aviv, Israel. The artists also requested that the television of France did not broadcast the event.
  • He opposed the Franco-Israeli Cultural Cooperation and in 2018 he signed a letter together with 80 other artists in which he expressed his outrage at the celebration of the Israel-France Intercultural Season by the Israeli and French governments. Ernaux pointed out that the theme season was intended to “whiten” the image of the State of Israel. The letter stated that it is a moral obligation for any conscientious person to reject the normalization of relations with the State of Israel.
  • Ernaux called for the release of a Lebanese terrorist, Georges Abdullahmilitant who co-founded the Lebanese Revolutionary Armed factions in 1980 and was sentenced to life in prison for the 1982 murders of US Military Attache Lt. Col. Charles Ray and Israeli diplomat Yakov Bar simantov.
  • In 2021 after the Israeli military operation in the Gaza StripGuardian of the Walls, Ernaux signed a letter entitled, Letter Against Apartheid; in which he enumerates the Israeli attacks against Loopnot to mention the riots organized by Israeli Arabs throughout Israelnor the more than 4,000 rockets launched from the Gaza Strip a Israel. Ernaux mentions “that framing these events between equal sides is false and misleading.” “Israel It is a colonizing power. Palestine it is colonized; this is not a conflict, it is a apartheid”.

In this context, the Dr Shimon SamuelsDirector of International Relations of the Simon Wiesenthal Centeran international Jewish human rights organization with more than four hundred thousand member families in USA, Europe Y America Latinaccredited before the United Nationsthe UNESCOthe OSCEthe OAS and the Council of Europehe stated, that the campaign BDS who strongly supports annie ernaux represents a danger to all Jews of the world.

The bell BDS and its activities are cataloged as a contemporary case of antisemitism by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

Also, the Dr Shimon Samuels expressed that given the anti-Israeli activism of Ernaux that by receiving a literary prize of almost a million dollars he could contribute to the violent activities of pro-Palestinian organizations that are on the list of terrorist movements of the European Union. “From this perspective, the choice of the Swedish Academy (prize giver) is chilling.”
