Meet the international guests at the World Congress of Jurists

The summit will be attended by prominent personalities and authorities such as King Felipe VI of Spain, who will be in the city for two days on his first visit as monarch to a capital of Colombia.

In your capacity as hostess, Barranquilla has been making logistical preparations to welcome the attendees of this international event, which awaits prominent personalities and authorities such as King Felipe VI of Spain, who will be in the capital of the Atlantic for two days on his first visit as a monarch to a city in Colombia.

In the same way, bosses and former heads of state such as the president of the Republic of Colombia, Iván Duque Márquez, and former president Ernesto Samper (1994-1998), as well as the former president of the Dominican Republic (2004-2016), Leonel Fernández.

Presidents of high courts, ministers, ambassadors, prosecutors and representatives of international organizations, academics, lawyers, businessmen, human rights activists and students from all continents have also confirmed their attendance.

Among the panelists of the work tables are: the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro; the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who will be in a virtual way; and the OAS Commissioner for the Venezuelan refugee and migrant crisis, David Smolansky.

Meanwhile, some of the host ministers are Wilson Ruiz Orejuela, president of the Organizing Committee of the World Law Congress and Justice minister; María Ximena Lombana Villalba, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism; Ángel Custodio Cabrera, Minister of Labor; Daniel Palacios Martínez, Minister of the Interior, and María Victoria Angulo, Minister of Education.

Other leaders of the national portfolios that will participate on behalf of their countries are: Ximena Garzón-Villalba, Minister of Health of Ecuador; Pilar Llop Cuenca, Minister of Justice of Spain; Ali Sabry, Minister of Justice of Sri Lanka; Carla Bacigalupo Planás, Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security of Paraguay, and Luis Miguel De Camps García-Mella, Minister of Labor of the Dominican Republic.

Presidents of high international courts will also be at the World Congress of Jurists. They stand out, in that sense, Villu Kõve, President of the Supreme Court of Estonia; Dainius Žalimas, former president of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania; Matej Accetto, Vice President and President-elect of the Constitutional Court of Slovenia; Domnica Manole, President of the Constitutional Court of Moldova, and Serhiy Holovaty, Vice President of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

Women, protagonists of the summit

The pre-event panel ‘Women and consolidation of the rule of law’ It will be moderated by the first lady of the Republic, María Juliana Ruiz.

The space, which will take place on December 1, will feature the participation of the first and only female president of the Constitutional Court of Chile, Marisol Peña Torres, and Elisabeth Cassin, vice president of the Orange Spectrum Group and patron of the World Law Foundation. Elisabeth is the granddaughter of René Cassin, writer of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Award participation confirmed Nobel Peace Prize, Rigoberta Menchú, who will be at work tables on the Erule of law and democracy, talking about the promotion of peace through human rights education and global advances respecting the traditions of the regions and countries.
Menchú will share the panel with Rosalía Arteaga, first woman president and constitutional vice president of Ecuador, who served as the first office of that Republic between February 6 and 11, 1997.

Programming

On December 2, at 9:00 am, at the events center Golden Gate The opening speech will be given by the president of the World Jurist Association, Javier Cremades, and the Vice President of the World Law Foundation, Viviane Reding.

In this space will also be the president of the International Union of Magistrates, José Igreja Matos; the president of the International Association of Attorneys General, Cheol-Kyu Hwang, and the Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Likewise, the Attorney General of the Nation, Margarita Cabello; and the president of the Constitutional Court, Antonio José Lizarazo.

At 5:30 pm will be the inauguration of the monument of the World Peace & Liberty Award in the Plaza de la Paz, in the presence of the winner of the World Peace & Liberty Award 2019, King Felipe VI of Spain.

On December 3, at 9:30 am, the closing ceremony and delivery of the World Peace & Liberty Award. For the first time, in the 27 editions of the congress, the “Nobel of Law” It will be awarded to a group: Colombian civil society, for its unwavering support for coexistence in democracy, despite the vicissitudes, and for developing its social fabric under the 1991 Constitution, which this year celebrated 30 years of validity.

During the event, among other leaders, the Former Mayor of Los Angeles (USA), Antonio Villaraigosa. Next, they will give statements on King Felipe VI and the President of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez.
