Organize activities for World Blood Donor Day

On this date, health institutions at the international level reinforce actions to increase social awareness of the need and importance of having safe blood and blood products for transfusion throughout the year.

Likewise, the valuable contribution of voluntary donors to health systems and the target population is highlighted. Whoever donates blood makes it possible with their solidarity action to preserve the health and life of other people.

This year, the motto of the celebration is Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives, which highlights the essential contribution of donors to save lives and strengthen solidarity in the community.

World Blood Donor Day commemorates the birth of Karl LandsteinerAustrian pathologist and biologist, who discovered and typified the blood groups of the ABO system, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, in 1930. Landsteiner was born in Vienna on June 14, 1868.

The classification of blood groups allowed blood transfusions to be carried out between compatible people, without the risk of rejection.
