Today begins the XXXIII Annual Research Seminar CIES 2022, “Post-pandemic scenarios and contributions to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda”, which will feature keynote speeches by two Nobel Peace Prize winners 2006, Muhammad Yunus, and James Heckman, Nobel Prize winner. Economy 2000.
Yunus will give a brief talk entitled Redesigning the economic system, the time is now, while Heckman will address the Challenges of global development.
This forum, one of the most important in the Peruvian academy, aims to propose policy options to overcome the serious effects of the pandemic and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are based on three fundamental pillars: economic development , social development and environmental protection. Where on the road are we going? What else can we do in the next 7 years to reach the goal set as a country? Now more than ever, Peru requires planned actions towards inclusive and sustainable development.
The Seminar has included the exhibition in thematic tables of 12 investigations developed in the last year and 8 public events, to debate national and world trends, always with the objective of contributing to the discussion of ideas and possibilities for Peru.
The first day, November 2, will take place in person at the Alameda room of El Pardo Hotel (Jr. Independencia 141, Miraflores); while on November 3 and 4, the events will be virtual and broadcast via YouTube and Facebook of CIES, simultaneously with the same social networks of partner institutions and media allies.
At 08:45 a.m., the inauguration will be in charge of Miguel Ángel Carpio, president of the CIES Board of Directors, and then Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, will present his keynote address “Redesigning the global economic system: the time is now”
Subsequently, the president of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), Julio Velarde, will present the “Post-pandemic monetary and financial outlook”. Also Andreas Schleicher, OECD director of education and skills, with the theme: Educating for the world of tomorrow.
The keynote lectures will include the co-developer of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, Teresa Lambe (Oxford University), with her presentation Ready for the next pandemic? Learned lessons; with the director of the Center for Future Studies of the University of Dubai, Saeed Aldaheri, with a conference on Government Forecasts in a complex world. Reflections and economic, social and health scenarios; and, by Jayati Ghosh (U. of Massachusetts Amherst), advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations, about the Possibilities of development in a fragmented world.
The Economic and Social Research Consortium (CIES) hopes that this forum will be an opportunity to contribute to the debate towards the development of the country.
