This will be the new exhibition on Gabriel García Márquez at CDMX
Our capital is raffling off incredible cultural options for the month of May; An example of this is the exhibition of Mafalda in Reforma, as well as the Simpson Weekend in honor of the TV series. All of them are joined by the new expo Gabo 40 years after the Nobel Prize: The writer does have someone who writes to him for those who like Latin American literature.
Throughout this exhibition, we will be able to contemplate a collection of letters found very recently in the personal archive of the García Márquez family. These letters show us the closeness of the author with famous people from various historical moments, as well as heads of state, artists, friends and colleagues in the field of writing.
The discovery of the letters takes place within the framework of the celebrations of the 40 years of the Nobel Prize; To celebrate Gabo’s work, his family has decided to once again open the doors of the Gabriel García Márquez House of Literature and show more than 100 letters selected for the exhibition.
Some of the letters that we will be able to discover belong to characters such as the writer Pablo Neruda, the American politician Bill Clinton and the activist Robert Redford, among many other personalities.
“My father and I were looking for photos for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Nobel Prize when we found a box with a mysterious label that said ‘Grandchildren’; Of course I opened it right away and my father and I were shocked to see the contents. […] For me it was incredible to find this, it was an entrance to an intimate world of my grandparents that continues to surprise me and to be able to exhibit them in the house is extremely special for me”, says Emilia García about the discovery of this archive.
