news culture Amazon Prime Video: film and series releases to watch in July 2022

It’s not because summer lends itself particularly well to vacations and long trips that you won’t have the opportunity to take a look at Prime Video: Amazon’s platform continues to enrich its catalog with a bunch of new movies and new series… and there’s something in the bunch that you should like. Follow the leader !

The Terminal List – July 1 (Prime Video Original Series)

Now a major figure in current cinema, Chris Pratt was not going to miss his date with Hollywood action. In The Terminal List, our Guardian of the Galaxy slips into the skin of Lieutenant James Reece, a soldier in search of revenge after the elimination of his entire team. Unfortunately for his opponents, Reece is, one, particularly fired up, but two, also very good at wielding a weapon and wreaking havoc. A pitch which is frankly not original but which could well please fans of the genre, especially since we find Antoine Fuqua at the production, the author of the super Training Day, Equalizer or The Magnificent Seven. Side fights, he knows it.

Parasite – July 1

Amazon Prime Video: film and series releases to watch in July 2022

Nothing new in this case, but we have to mention it: Parasite, big winner of the Oscars and the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019, will enter the Prime Video catalog. A South Korean feature film that caused a stir: the story traces that of the Kim family, unemployed and in financial trouble, who manipulates and takes advantage of another family, rich, without their knowledge. A particularly surprising work, with unexpected twists and an atmosphere tinged with drama and dark humour. We definitely recommend it, especially if you haven’t had the chance to see it yet.

Phantom Thread

Amazon Prime Video: film and series releases to watch in July 2022

Released in theaters in 2017, Phantom Thread is definitely one of the really cool additions to Prime Video this month. The film takes us to London in the 1950s, following the story of fashion designer Reynolds Woodcock and his muse and then his mistress, Alma. A touching story directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the man to whom we owe the sumptuous There Will Be Blood in 2007. Like the latter, the filmmaker reworks here with Daniel Day-Lewis (who therefore occupies the main role), quite simply one of the best actors in the history of cinema with three Oscars to his credit in the supreme category. . In short, very nice arguments for this Phantom Thread that you will be able to discover from the first day of next month.

RRRrrr!!! – July, 1st

Amazon Prime Video: film and series releases to watch in July 2022

Do we still need to present it? This cult French comedy was first released in 2004, from the imagination of a certain Alain Chabat. Without surprise, we find there a really funny and absurd experience, in which a tribe preserves the formula of the shampoo, real covetousness of an opposing clan, 35,000 years ago. 98 minutes of pleasure and punctuated by greats like Maurice Barthélemy, Jean-Paul Rouve, Gérard Depardieu, Marina Foïs, Jean Rochefort, Dominique Farrugia, Joeystarr… still Chabat himself. Something to rebuild your culture or simply a nice nostalgic pleasure.

The Incorruptibles – July 4

Amazon Prime Video: film and series releases to watch in July 2022

Three years after a certain Scarface, Brian De Palma gave birth to a new masterpiece: The Incorruptibles, a thriller that has since become legendary and which will be released on Prime Video on July 4. Contrary to the adventure of Tony Montana, it is not a mafia film strictly speaking since it takes the side of a team of experienced federal agents, embodied by Sean Connery, Kevin Costner or even Andy Garcia. In front of them, the empire of Al Capone in Chicago, king of the Outfit and neither more nor less than Robert De Niro. A struggle between good and evil in the midst of prohibition, dressed by the music of the incredible Ennio Morricone. A very, very great classic of the Seventh Art.

The United Way – July 15

Amazon Prime Video: film and series releases to watch in July 2022

Notice to football fans: this documentary released in 2021 and directed by Mat Hodgson traces the entire history of Manchester United, a legendary club from the English city of the same name. Its little extra is having Éric Cantona as narrator, recounting the sensational journey of an organization that is decidedly unlike any other and one of the pillars of the discipline. Hang on, because from the Munich crash to the 1999 hat-trick, the history of the Red Devils is dense and full of twists and turns.

Don’t Make Me Go – July 15 (Prime Video Original Film)

Amazon Prime Video: film and series releases to watch in July 2022

Definitely one of the big projects to watch closely for the month of July. Don’t make me go invites us to follow the touching journey of a father (played by John Cho), sick, and his daughter (Mia Isaac): both will go on a huge road trip to meet the mother of the latter, whom she has never been able to meet. A journey that will also serve as a powerful and majestic lesson in life, or at least that’s what we’re promised: note that Don’t make me go is directed by Hannah Marks, a young director aged only 29, already behind After Verything in 2019. Have the tissues ready, just in case.

The Lost City of Z – July 15

Amazon Prime Video: film and series releases to watch in July 2022

It’s a big yes. The Lost City of Z is directed by James Gray, the author of the Oscar-winning film 12 Years a Slave, with this time a big theme: exploration. You can admire the expedition of Percy Fawcet, sent by the Royal Geographical Society of England to the Amazon to map the borders between Brazil and Bolivia. In search of a very ancient city, this adventurer (who really existed, by the way) will have to face all the dangers, whether it’s the ultra-hostile climate of the local jungle, the fauna or even… humans who already live there. A very good feature film, both fascinating and ruthless and whose leading figures have left their mark: Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Robert Pattinson (The Batman), Tom Holland (Spider-Man) or even Sienna Miller (American Sniper) bring this story to (re)discover on July 15.

Paper Girls – July 29 (Prime Video Original Series)

Amazon Prime Video: film and series releases to watch in July 2022

Adapted from the eponymous comic, Paper Girls is a series based on the well-known principle of time travel, which will probably never get old. The day after Halloween in 1988, four young women and great friends will mysteriously meet in 2019. They will then have to face themselves, having become adults, while trying to understand the why and the how… and to return to their homes, in the 80s. And also to save the world of the future, incidentally. July 29 will mark the arrival of this new project for which we hope to be surprised.
