Cannes 2022: A second Palme d’or for Ruben Östlund | CineChronicle

Ruben Ostlund, Palme d’Or 2022 at the Cannes Film Festival for Without Filter

After The Square in 2017, Ruben Östlund returned to the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which ended on Saturday May 28, to win again with a social chronicle, Without filter.

It is therefore to Ruben Östlund that Vincent Lindon and his jury have decided to award the Palme d’Or for Without filter (Triangle of Sadness), the first feature film shot in English by the Swedish filmmaker with Harris Dickinson (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil), Charlbi Dean Kriek (Interview with God) and Woody Harrelson (Back to Zombieland) in the lead roles. This acerbic comedy follows the sinking of a yacht where a model, an influencer, the captain and the employees must now live together.

If David Cronenberg leaves empty-handed for his return with The Crimes of the Future, which follows his eight-year absence, this is not the case for the Dardenne brothers. After two Palme d’Or, a Grand Prix, a screenplay award and then a director’s award, the filmmaking duo won the 75th Cannes Film Festival Prize for Tori and Lokita centered on two young exiles who came to settle in Belgium.

Similarly, awards regular Arnaud Desplechin did not receive any honor for Brother and sisterunlike Park Chan-wook who won the Best Director Award with Decision to Leave. This award is in addition to his Grand Prix in 2004 for old boy and the Jury Prize for Thirst, this is my blood in 2009.

Jerzy Skolimowski and Belgian filmmaker Felix Van Groeningen, in duo with his partner Charlotte Vandermeersch, tied for the Jury Prize with respectively Hi Han and The Eight Mountains.

The worst by Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret won the Un Certain Regard Prize, while A nice morning by Mia Hansen-Love (The future), worn by Léa Seydoux (Dying can wait), Melvil Poupaud (Thanks to God) and Nicole Garcia (The one you believe), around a young single mother who takes care of her sick father, leaves with the Europa Cinemas Label of the Directors’ Fortnight.

To finish, The pack by Andrés Ramírez Pulido received the Nespresso Grand Prix of the Critics’ Week.
