Cannes Film Festival – Ruben Östlund wins a 2nd Palme d’Or for his hilarious Without filter

“The whole jury was extremely shocked by this film”, announced Vincent Lindon, the president of the jury.

“When we started this film, we had only one goal: to try to make a film that interests the public and makes them think provocatively,” said the Swede, receiving his award.

Without filter follows the adventure of Yaya and Carl, a couple of models and influencers vacationing on a luxury cruise. A journey that turns to disaster.

Grand Prize and Jury Prize

The Grand Prix, the second most prestigious distinction, was awarded ex-aequo to Frenchwoman Claire Denis for Stars at noon and the Belgian Lukas Dhont, the youngest (31 years old) of the competition, for Close.

The jury prize was awarded ex-aequo to The Eight Mountains Belgians Charlotte Vandermeersch and Félix van Groeningen and Hi Han by the Polish Jerzy Skolimowski. The special prize for the 75th anniversary of the meeting on the Croisette was awarded to the Belgians Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne for Tori and Lokita.

The Best Director Award went to Korean Park Chan-wook for Decision to Leave. The Egyptian Tarik Saleh received the screenplay prize for boy from heaven.

Interpretation Prize

Around President Vincent Lindon, by majority, the jurors also rewarded South Korean star Song Kang-ho, 55, star actor of the Palme d’Or 2019 Parasite, who won the prize for male interpretation for his role in The lucky stars by Japanese Hirokazu Kore-Eda.

Iranian actress Zar Amir Ebrahimi, who had to leave Iran for France in 2008 following a sex scandal, won the Best Actress award for her role in Ali Abbasi’s thriller Mashhad Nights. Signed by Gina Gammel and Riley Kough, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, war pony received the Camera d’or. The Palme d’Or for short film went to The Waters Murmursby the Chinese Jianying Chen.
