Lumières 2022 Prize: “Lost Illusions” dominates the nominations – Les Inrocks

The nominations for the Prix Lumières, the rewards for French cinema by the international press, have just been unveiled: if a few films were expected, we also noticed a large number of absentees.

The list of nominations for the 2022 Lumières Awards was established this Thursday, December 9 by an academy made up of around a hundred journalists from the international press.

There are several films that have appeared at major international festivals, such as Lost illusions by Xavier Giannoli or The event by Audrey Diwan, both presented at the Venice Film Festival last September.

In the category of best film, in addition to the two films already mentioned, we note the presence ofOnoda, 10,000 nights in the jungle by Arthur Harari, in our top 2021, which also appears in the categories direction, screenplay and image, as well asAnnette by Leos Carax, best director award at Cannes this year, and In his lifetime, the hospitable melody of Emmanuelle Bercot currently in theaters. This last film seems to have conquered the international press, against the French press and the public.

Many forgotten

We would have expected a movie like Aline by Valérie Lemercier, the false adaptation of Celine Dion’s life, in the queen categories: only Valérie Lemercier is nominated in the category of best actress. Also not very present, the film of Leos Carax, whose actors are totally eclipsed from the list, just like the writers Ron and Russell Mael of the Sparks, named only to the music.

But the big missing from this ceremony is obviously Titanium by Julia Ducournau, Palme d’Or at Cannes, distributed worldwide and who will represent France at the Oscars. The film is nominated in only three categories, best actor for Vincent Lindon, female revelation for Agathe Rousselle and best music for Jim Williams: the screenwriter and director Julia Ducournau being surprisingly ousted from the list.

Illusions rediscovered

The literary fresco Lost illusions by Xavier Giannoli, based on Balzac’s work, dominates the nominations with five citations. Movies Everything went well and The divide, each dealing in their own way with topical political issues in the hospital environment, are for their part praised for the interpretation of their actors.

Note also the presence of a whole new generation of young actors who occupy the places of revelation: Thimotée Robart for Magnetics, Sami Outalbali and Zbeida Belhajamor for A story of love and desire and Lucie Zhang and Makita Samba for The Olympics.

This list is therefore an astonishing indicator at the approach of the nominations of the Caesar, which will arrive on January 26 next. The Prix Lumières ceremony will take place unencrypted on Canal + on January 17, 2022 at 8 p.m.
