The event dedicated to cinemas from Africa, Latin America and Asia is back this year with an ever-rich program and a selection of unique films and documentaries. Content written in partnership with the Festival des 3 Continents.
For more than 40 years, the Festival des 3 Continents has invited people to take a fresh look at cinemas from elsewhere. A committed cinematographic event with the projection of unpublished works in French and European previews promoting the emergence of new film talents. From November 18 to 27, 90 films are offered over 240 screenings in 10 towns in Loire-Atlantique.
Around its program, the festival offers this year a tribute to Hirokazu Kore-eda, famous Japanese filmmaker and a journey through Indian cinema from the 1970s to the 1990s.
It should also be noted that for the first time in the world, a complete presentation of the work of Mike De Leon, an essential figure in Filipino cinema, will be offered during the festival.
This year, the selection is placed under the sign of reality with a sensitive and very personal look at the relationship to the contemporary world. Cinemas in Brazil and India are making a strong comeback for this 44th edition, each with 2 films and/or documentaries among the 10 films selected:

Throughout the festival, a tribute will be paid to the works of the famous Hirokazu Kore-eda, palme d’or in 2018 in Cannes for A family matter. From November 25 to 27 in Nantes, the Japanese filmmaker honors the festival with his presence until the Awards Ceremony on Sunday November 27 where his latest film The Lucky Stars, whose official release is scheduled for December 7, will be projected.
In today’s world where movie theaters are gradually losing their attendance, the 3 Continents festival sets up cultural activities throughout the year to bring cinemas from around the world to life and offer workshops for the youngest in the area in order to to make them aware of the richness of the 7th art: mediations, film analysis, casting workshops, etc.
A daily commitment which is reinforced during the festival with specific programs such as First step towards the 3 Continents intended for children from kindergarten to primary school and the College and High School Selection.
The festival is also a time for discussion and celebration! Throughout the duration of the festival, the 3 Continents Coffee opens its doors at the Cosmopolis space in Nantes. This friendly place offers everyone the opportunity to come and chat over a drink or have something to eat in an Indian-coloured decor.
Several evenings will be organized there, such as the jazz evening on November 23 for the preview of the film with musical notes Rewind & Play by Alain Gomis (present for the occasion). A projection followed by a DJ SET by Chilly Jay.
