Mustii in concert from the summit of the Lion of Waterloo for the WaHFF

We no longer present it, the historic Waterloo festival returns for a 10th edition from October 13 to 16, 2022. An edition that is likely to go down in history given the menu concocted by the organizers and the municipality. “We pulled out all the stops to make this edition a resounding success. Events will take place throughout Waterloo, which will live to the rhythm of the cinema during these 4 days.” rejoices Alban de Fraipont, organizer of the festival.

The opening ceremony will be presented by Jessica Matthys, journalist and columnist on Youtube and BX1. This will present the films in competition as well as the various juries. The ceremony will be preceded by the film Tirailleurs by Mathieu Vadepied with Omar Sy. The closing ceremony will be presented by Thomas de Bergeyck, a master in the field. 17 films and documentaries will be in competition during these 4 days.

Interview with Claude Lelouch

Many big screen stars will be present at this event. In particular Clovis Cornillac who will come to present his new film, as a director, with Couleur de l’Incendie, a film adapted from the novel by Pierre Lemaitre. If the film is not in competition, it is he who will close the festival, Sunday October 16 at 7 p.m. Two other important guests are to be remembered: the presence of Randal Kleiser, director of Grease and Croc-Blanc. Also a professor at the University of California, he will come to give a “masterclass” on production and work around new technologies. But if there is a name to remember, it is that of Claude Lelouch. An emblematic figure of French cinema, we owe him more than 50 of the greatest films of French cinema. Consecration of his career, he won in 1966, the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Oscar for best foreign film for the film Un homme, une femme. The latter will give a great interview on his rich career, preceded by the screening of the film Ones and Others.

If the list of stars is already making your mouth water, you will probably enjoy the rest of the program: a unique gala to celebrate the tenth edition. On Saturday October 15, the festival gives you an appointment, not in dark rooms, but at the foot of the Lion of Waterloo. Mustii, a Brabant artist, will welcome you with a musical show from the top of the Lion’s Mound. A gala dinner will follow at the Bivouac de l’Empereur, 10 years of memories of the WaHFF presented by Philippe Reynaert, as well as an after-party to close the evening.

Other events will take place around the dark rooms of the Cinés Wellington. Charlie Chaplin will notably be invited to the WaHFF, in a show combining music, comedy and film extracts. The show will take place at the Salle Jules Bastin on Friday, October 14.

The Cinema Symphony

The team of Benuts, a Brabant company, specialized in special effects and recognized throughout the world, will come and give a demonstration to show you how the sets of the past are artificially recreated. See you on October 13 at the Cinés Wellington.

Finally, we will find the Cinema Symphony, a concert of film music. 25 singers and 40 musicians will take you on a journey through the greatest classics of cinema in the heart of the Salle Jules Bastin on Sunday 16 October.

As a reminder, the WaHFF was founded 9 years ago by Yves Vander Cruysen, former alderman for Culture in Waterloo. The succession is now ensured by the new alderwoman for Culture Bernadette Delange-Raeymaekers (MR), the general manager, Alban de Fraipont and also supported by the Province of Walloon Brabant, represented by Tanguy Stuckens (MR), President of the College provincial. “Historical cinema is beneficial for everyone, it’s a tool for open-mindedness. The programming is made to interest young people, whom I particularly encourage to take part in this kind of event.” concluded the latter.

Prices range from €8 for a single screening to €140 for the Diamond Pass which includes all the films, the gala, the gala dinner, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.
