Pete Smith is dead at 63: the terrible end of life of the Lord of the Rings actor

New Zealand actor Pete Smith died on Saturday January 29, 2022 at the age of 63 following serious kidney disease. He was best known for his performances in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

This is very touching news for Lord of the Rings fans. New Zealand actor Pete Smith lost his battle with the disease this Saturday, January 29, 2022. The latter, who was 63 years old, suffered from severe kidney disease in addition to dementia. Pete Smith is survived by six children, including a son, Poumau Papali’i-Smith, who broke the terrible news to Stuff magazine: “My father was sick for a long time, so his disappearance has a bittersweet taste”he said, completely disillusioned.

The latter also explained that the Maori star had been on dialysis for more than seven years and that his bouts of dementia had revealed themselves in the past two years. Hospitalized at home, Pete Smith had recently suffered a serious infection, which he fought during the last month, before succumbing to the disease. “He died on Saturday, we are happy that he no longer has to suffer,” commented Poumau Papali’i-Smith, happy that his father left in peace.

The New Zealand actor began his career with a small role in the sci-fi film The Quiet Earth, thanks to which he had won his first interpretation award. The films then followed one another: The piano lesson of Jane Campion who brought her a Palme d’Or and an Oscar, The Soul of Warriors by Lee Tamahori and Peter Jackson’s famous Lord of the Rings trilogy, in which he played an Orc.

During the last years of his career, Pete Smith had decided to transmit his passion for nature and Maori culture by producing several documentaries on the subject. “He was just a man of the people, who always put others before himself”concluded Poumau Papali’i-Smith, very proud of all that his late father accomplished.
