This Tuesday, December 13, in Dijon, a ceremony was organized at the House of the University of Burgundy to honor teaching, administrative and technical staff of the Academic Palms.
Recognizable by the famous purple ribbon of its badge, the Order of Academic Palms was in the spotlight, this Tuesday, December 13, 2022, as well as staff from the University of Burgundy.
On the Dijon campus, at the Maison de l’université, Vincent Thomas, president of the higher education establishment, proceeded to a ceremony to award Academic Palms to the staff of the promotion of July 2022.
“Our language is very rich”
Vincent Thomas felt that this was “a mark of institutional and symbolic recognition” and “the manifestation of the institution with regard to individuals who, every day, spend time working at the service of our public service missions”.
The presentation of badges was accompanied by remarks by Daniel Demonfaucon, academy inspector and president of the Association of members of the Academic Palms of Côte-d’Or (AMOPA 21), who highlighted the French linguistic culture living in within the University of Burgundy: “our language is very rich if you judge by its variations, its substances, its subtleties”.
“The priceless human wealth of our community”
The president of the University of Burgundy underlined “the diversity of statuses and training exercised by the recipients”. Four of those honored were born outside of France: Cameroon, United States, Spain and United Kingdom.
“What a beautiful symbol of openness, of diversity of the invaluable human wealth of our community which is nourished by all influences, this chance clearly demonstrates the openness to the world of our university”, welcomed Vincent Thomas.
Staff appointed and promoted
Six people were appointed to the rank of Knight of the Academic Palms and one was promoted to the rank of officer.
Alexander Frame, lecturer at the UFR languages and communication, particularly a specialist in interculturality, coordinated the Forthem alliance project to promote the University of Burgundy among European universities.
Guy-Daniel Ligan, head of the IT department of the logistics division of UFR 5, worked in particular on the IT reconciliation of five training and research units.
Lucy Moser-Jauslin, university professor at the UFR sciences et techniques – one of the few female doctoral students in mathematics – has had a particularly intense research and publication activity.
Pablo Ortega-Deballon, teacher-researcher at the UFR health sciences, notably included the Stenford ranking of the most influential researchers in the world for 2021, a ranking which concerns 2% of researchers worldwide.
Valérie Saint-Giorgo, director of zootechnics of the UFR of health sciences, in particular directs the zootechnics pole composed of eight people and endowed with an annual budget of 450,000 euros.
Aurélie Tarot, certified teacher and site manager of the National Higher Institute of Teaching and Education in Mâcon, is a specialist in adapted education and creator of the university diploma “treatized on suffering in school and extracurricular”.
Excused, Tania Carnet, administrative manager of the UFR Sciences and techniques of physical and sports activities, was promoted to the rank of officer.
Historical review of the Academic Palms
The academic palms were instituted in their current form by decree of October 4, 1955 by the President of the Republic René Coty. Their creation dates back to the First Empire with the decree of March 19, 1808 on the organization of the imperial university.
They are thus the oldest distinction awarded solely for civilian purposes. You must be thirty-five years old to be named a knight. To be promoted to officer or commander it is necessary, except in exceptional cases, to have seniority of five years in the lower rank. Nominations take place twice a year.
