Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer recruits Florence Pugh, Rami Malek and Benny Safdie

Florence Pugh, Rami Malek and Benny Safdie have joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, Oppenheimer. The historical thriller is based on the life of American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was responsible for the development of the atomic bomb. Peaky blinders star Cillian Murphy will play the main character, with Emily Blunt playing his wife, Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer. Christopher Nolan wrote the screenplay, adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.

Oppenheimer is still in the early stages of production, so there’s no word on the plot just yet. However, the film is billed as an “epic thriller that plunges audiences into the thrilling paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it”. Nolan, Emma Thomas and Charles Roven are producing the film in collaboration with Universal Studios. This ends Nolan’s ten-year partnership with Warner Bros. Benny Safdie is best known for co-directing Good time and Uncut Gems with his brother Josh. But Safdie has also established himself as a good actor. He was most recently seen in Paul T. Anderson’s Licorice Pizza and will then appear in the Disney + series Obi wan kenobi.

It looks like Nolan has assembled his hottest cast yet to Oppenheimer, and there’s probably more to come. With such a talented cast, we are sure to have some mind-blowing performances. Oppenheimer is slated for an exclusive theatrical release on July 21, 2023.
