Oppenheimer’s First Trailer Reveals New Christopher Nolan Movie – GameSpot

“Now I have become death, the destroyer of worlds,” said the nuclear physicist and father of the atomic bomb. J.Robert Oppenheimer as he watched the first detonation of the weapon of mass destruction. Cillian Murphy illustrates how that detonation could very well have destroyed the world in a tense first trailer for Christopher Nolanthe last project of Oppenheimer. Murphy plays the titular scientist in the adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the end Martin J. Sherwin which explores the conflict and politics surrounding the creation of the nuclear bomb and the complicated man at the center of it all.

The trailer begins by presenting Oppenheimer as a troubled man whose flaws are ignored in favor of his genius. Reluctantly called upon to help end World War II, he points to one hope: a nuclear weapon developed in secret in the desert with the destructive power to deter anyone from continuing to fight. A haunting score plays as he examines the bomb’s large-scale development, imagining a column of fire engulfing their enemies and ending fights in one swift motion. The only backlash he receives from superiors is that the detonation has a nonzero chance of destroying not only the enemies of the United States, but also the world itself by destroying the atmosphere. A timer ticks down and the music slowly builds as the catastrophic consequences become clear and the launch draws near. Nolan denies us his big, non-CGI bomb blast just yet, however, as the countdown hits zero, the trailer teases us with the line, “We all know what happened over there.”

To truly grasp the magnitude of Oppenheimer, Nolan has managed to pull together what might be, on paper, one of the greatest casts ever assembled. Murphy plays opposite Emily Blunt who plays scientist Kitty’s wife. Also aboard the massive cast are Matt Damon, Florence Poug, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr., Benny Safdi, Josh Hartnet, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Michael Angaranoand Matthias Schweighofer among others.

Oppenheimer Is one of the biggest undertakings of Nolan’s career

Nolan is no stranger to creating great, innovative cinematic giants, leading the beloved Black Knight movies, mind blowers Creationand Interstellar among other things, it required truly impressive amounts of research and practical effects work. Even by his high standards, Oppenheimer is a beast. In collaboration with the visual effects supervisor Andre Jackson, the director and his team recreated the entire Los Alamos proving ground where the Trinity test took place as well as the test itself and all the quantum physics work that Oppenheimer and his team would have done to create the bomb . It was also a challenge for Murphy who did a lot of reading to really understand who Oppenheimer was and portray all aspects of his character. Even from the trailer, the scale of the project is on full display as footage pans over the massive structure of Los Alamos.

There will be a tough and star-studded competition when the historical epic is released. While Oppenheimer sucked up the stars, another hot pink, plastic, fantasy film did the exact same thing – Greta Gerwigit is Barbie. As fate would have it, the two are set to release on the same day, setting up a blockbuster battle of epic proportions.

Oppenheimer bursts into theaters on July 21, 2023. Check out the trailer below.
