Tonight, April 9th, astrophysicist Gianluca Masi will host a live stream via the Virtual Telescope Project (VTP) and Space.com, beginning at 7:45 PM PT / 10:45 PM ET, and then again at 2:45 AM GMT on April 10th. The broadcast will utilize a constellation of Italian-based robotic telescopes to track the Orion spacecraft’s trajectory, offering a remarkably intimate view of a mission that has spanned ten grueling days and pushed the boundaries of human spaceflight.

Originally launched from Kennedy Space Center on April 1st, the Artemis II mission represents a monumental leap toward sustained lunar exploration and, ultimately, a return to Mars. The crew, boasting a detailed, almost audacious, itinerary—including subtle nods to Project Hail Mary—surpassed the previous record for lunar proximity, clocking in at a staggering 248,655 miles.

According to NASA/Bill Ingalls imagery, the spacecraft will register as a “faint, fast-moving point of light against the background stars,” a subtle yet striking reminder of the complex engineering and sheer distance involved. The splashdown is slated for the evening of Friday, April 10th, off the coast of San Diego.
