Wwe 2k26 ringside pass overhaul: fans finally get what they paid for
The collective groan of WWE 2K26 players has been heard, and 2K has responded. After a deluge of criticism regarding the redesigned Ringside Pass system, the publisher is rolling out significant changes aimed at delivering on the promise of immediate roster access – something fans have come to expect and, frankly, deserve.
Hours of grinding, now a thing of the past
The initial launch of the Ringside Pass, intended to replace the traditional six-pack of DLC, sparked immediate backlash. Players found themselves facing a daunting prospect: sinking upwards of dozens of hours into the game just to unlock the legendary wrestlers they’d already shelled out money for. The new 40-tier battle pass, while offering a broader range of rewards, essentially penalized players for wanting instant access to the icons they craved. It felt less like a bonus and more like a roadblock, particularly frustrating for those investing in the premium tiers.
But the era of excessive grinding is over. With the release of patch 1.07, 2K has announced a dramatic shift in strategy. Starting with Season 2, all four characters featured in the Premium track of the Ringside Pass will be unlocked immediately upon reaching Tier 1. This is a massive win for players, eliminating the need to dedicate countless hours to tier progression just to get their hands on the wrestlers they desire.
Furthermore, 2K has reduced the XP required to advance through each tier from 800 to a much more manageable 625—a number the publisher assures won't be increased again. As a gesture of goodwill, players who logged in before April 14 will receive a hefty 20 tiers worth of free XP, giving them a significant head start towards unlocking Season 1’s roster of AAA stars including El Hijo Del Vikingo, Flammer, Mr. Iguana, and Psycho Clown. While this doesn't rewind the time already spent by some, it’s a clear indication of 2K’s commitment to addressing community concerns.
The timing of these changes is particularly astute, arriving just weeks before Wrestlemania, WWE’s biggest event of the year. Season 2 of WWE 2K26 is poised to launch alongside the spectacle, bringing with it the next quartet of superstars: Ax, Smash, Crush, and Kelly Kelly. Beyond Wrestlemania, fans can look forward to a steady stream of additions, including Matt Cardona, Torrie Wilson, Brian Pillman, and La Parka (Season 3), followed by Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Jelly Roll, and Lady Shani (Season 4), and more throughout the year.
The cost of each Ringside Pass season remains $9.99/£8.99, with an annual pass available for $49.99/£44.99. The previous system felt exploitative given the price point, making the current overhaul a necessary and welcome adjustment.
