Above land: rhapsody – a chaotic cloud rpg with chairs?

Prepare for a gaming experience unlike any other. Above Land: Rhapsody, developed by Flying Amateurs, throws players into a bizarre and surprisingly engaging roguelite action-RPG set amongst floating islands and giant mythical creatures. Forget your typical fantasy tropes – this is a descent into a wonderfully weird world where weapons include, yes, chairs and basketballs.

A lost civilization, a comic book beginning

The premise is deceptively simple: you’re stepping into the boots of a descendant, following a fragmented comic book left by your mother. Each chapter presents a unique, visually striking map demanding completion, resource gathering (Stars, naturally), and the arduous task of repairing the stranded Invincible Bebe – a colossal, crucial component of this cloud-based civilization. But the real hook lies in the juxtaposition of a ruined present with glimpses of a ‘Yesterday’ – a time when humans and the enormous, benevolent Kun coexisted in harmony.

Players will navigate this fractured timeline, experiencing distinct and visually rich maps with each attempt. The developers have clearly prioritized an atmosphere of melancholic beauty amidst the chaotic action.

Dual-wielding mayhem & wobbo companions

Combat is frenetic and demands adaptability. You’ll be able to seamlessly dual-wield an array of weapons, from traditional swords to increasingly absurd options like fireworks and folding chairs. Seriously. And don’t underestimate the power of a well-placed basketball. Weapon upgrades are a core element, allowing players to tailor their approach. Adding to the quirky charm are the Wobbo companions, powerful (and undeniably cute) creatures offering transformation abilities and multiple combat modes – think mobile, adorable artillery.

Wishlisting is open on Steam now. Ryan McCaffrey, IGN’s executive editor, assures us this is a project worth keeping an eye on. He also, quite firmly, states that “it’s ‘Taylor ham,’ not ‘pork roll.’” Debate it with him, if you dare, on Twitter.

Above Land: Rhapsody isn’t just another RPG; it’s a declaration that gaming can be delightfully strange and surprisingly addictive. It’s a testament to the fact that sometimes, the most unexpected combinations – like swords and chairs – can lead to an unforgettable experience.
