Arc raiders: new threats, loot, and crafting overhaul arrive
Embark Studios just dropped a substantial update for Arc Raiders, dubbed Flashpoint, promising a fresh wave of challenges and quality-of-life improvements for players across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Launching tomorrow, March 31st, this expansion isn't just about adding a single new enemy; it’s a significant shake-up to the core gameplay loop.
The vaporizer and a familiar face return
Leading the charge is the Vaporizer, a new Arc type sporting a laser-based attack and a penchant for coordinated assaults. Forget the fiery blasts of previous encounters; this drone is a precision threat, demanding tactical positioning and quick reflexes. But the challenges don’t stop there. The Shredder, previously deemed the deadliest Arc, is resurfacing in expanded locations—Blue Gate, Buried City, Spaceport, and even the Dam Battlegrounds—forcing Raiders to sharpen their skills against this shotgun-bursting menace.

High-risk, high-reward: the arc assessor
Flashpoint introduces the Close Scrutiny Arc Operation, a new map condition designed to test even the most seasoned Raiders. This event throws players into high-stakes scenarios centered around the Arc Assessor, a heavily guarded unit with rare components ripe for the taking. The risk is considerable, but the potential reward—valuable loot—is enticing.
Weaponry and resource gathering get a boost
Beyond the new threats, Flashpoint equips Raiders with two new weapons: the Dolabra Energy Shotgun and the Canto Sub-machine gun. Furthermore, the long-awaited Player Project for the High-Gain Antenna is finally live, offering an alternate avenue for earning rewards. But perhaps the most impactful change revolves around Scrappy, the player’s trusty companion. Now, players can feed Scrappy specific items to focus his resource gathering, streamlining the hunt for crucial components.
Crafting streamlined, store bundles added
Embark Studios has also streamlined the crafting system, promising shorter wait times between raids as players build out their loadouts. It’s a welcome change for those tired of lengthy crafting delays. And for those looking to personalize their Raider, the new Wasp Hunter cosmetic set is available for $20, including the outfit (with four color variants), an Oxygen Tank backpack, a helmet for Scrappy, a new Raider Tool, and 2400 Raider Tokens.
Flashpoint marks the third of four major expansions outlined in Embark's roadmap, following Headwinds and Shrouded Sky. With Riven Tides on the horizon in April, players can expect even more significant updates to the Arc Raiders experience. The promise of a new map, a formidable Arc threat, and a new map condition looms large, suggesting Embark is committed to keeping the Rust Belt crawling with danger and opportunity.
