Remember the excitement when touchscreen gloves for winter were invented? Well, a similar issue has plagued those with long nails - until now. A team at Centenary College of Louisiana has developed a transparent nail polish that makes nails conductive, allowing for precise touchscreen use.

The researchers tested 13 commercial transparent polishes and over 50 additives, eventually finding combinations that enabled nails to function as touchscreens. Derivatives of taurine and ethanolamine proved to be the most effective, offering conductivity with minimal toxicity concerns.

However, the new formula isn't perfect. It doesn't work consistently once applied and can lose conductivity when exposed to air for too long, sometimes within hours. But the team believes they've found a promising first step towards a more practical, less problematic solution.

They've already applied for a provisional patent and are hoping to make the conductive nail polish widely available soon, either for purchase or through manicures at nail salons.
