Riot Cancels Development of League of Legends Fighting Game 2XKO
Riot Games has announced the end of active development for its fighting game, 2XKO, slated for completion in December. The decision, detailed in a blog post on August 20th, stems from insufficient player engagement, despite a dedicated community.
Key Developments and Timeline
The 2XKO team cited a lack of sustained player base as the primary reason for halting development. While initial interest was strong, the game hasn’t achieved the player retention needed for long-term viability. The final content patch is scheduled for release in October, and servers will remain online until December. A crucial aspect of the announcement is the commitment to refunding all in-game purchases made before August 20th.

Upcoming Changes and Content Rollback
Looking ahead, Riot plans to disable KO Points purchases, refund all prior purchases, and offer a $39.99 cosmetic bundle. Most items will become available through in-game Credits. Furthermore, the company will unlock nearly all gameplay content, including all champions. Significant changes include the removal of Battle Passes, KO Points, Champion Tokens, seasons, and events, streamlining the casual lobby experience by disabling ranked lobbies.
Competitive Series Conclusion
The 2XKO Competitive Series will continue through the end of 2026, with Riot providing support and prizing for Major and Challenger events. The final Competitive Series event is planned for November 2027. Tournament organizers (TOs) will be permitted to host both offline and online events post-2026, adhering to community competition guidelines.
