Saber confirms star wars kotor remake still in development

After years of silence, Saber Interactive has confirmed its ambitious remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is still progressing. The news arrives following a recent interview with Saber’s chief creative officer, Tim Willits, who offered a terse but definitive “Yes, it is still in development. That's all I can say.”

Remake remains alive, though development path shifted

The confirmation offers a welcome reprieve for legions of fans eagerly awaiting a modern reimagining of the beloved RPG, originally crafted by BioWare. The project, first unveiled in 2021, had seemingly stalled, with no concrete updates emerging for the past five years. A December 2025 report from Game File indicated that Aspyr had relinquished development duties, with Mad Head Games, the studio behind Hellraiser: Revival, reportedly taking the reins.

This shift wasn't the only development note. Lucasfilm Games Vice President Douglas Reilly previously revealed plans for a full remake of Knights of the Old Republic II, codenamed “Juliet.” The vision was to retain the core narrative and characters while updating the game for modern hardware with enhanced graphics and gameplay.

The announcement comes on the heels of Star Wars: The Old Republic, a new single-player RPG spearheaded by former KOTOR director Casey Hudson, revealed at the 2025 Game Awards. While the timeline for Saber’s remake remains uncertain, the confirmation suggests the project is not dead. The studio’s continued work on the original Knights of the Old Republic, however, is a more immediate prospect.

Ultimately, the future of both KOTOR remakes hinges on Lucasfilm’s strategic priorities. For now, fans can cautiously celebrate the news that a beloved RPG is not lost to the sands of time.
