Steam rethinks storefront for better discovery

Valve has released a major redesign of the Steam storefront, aiming to make it easier for users to find newgames by displaying morecontent and information.

New look, new features

New look, new features

The updated storefront, now available for beta testers, builds on improvements made a few months ago and includes higher-resolution game art for better visual clarity. On higher-res monitors, the new store home is wider and more responsive.

Other notable changes include:

A more detailed explanation of why a game is being recommended, along with a user review round-up, when hovering over a game's cover art. A sneak-peek of adjacent games in the carousel. Option to disable micro-trailers and animated marketing assets for users with motion sensitivity.

Discounts & Events now use larger game artwork. The Discovery Queue got a quicker browsing experience without leaving the page. Hover states now show a short description along with other relevant info, with better contrast and legibility. Infinite scrolling has been refreshed to match the rest of the store.

New sections include Your Wishlist (games on discount from your wishlist) and DLC for Your Games (discounted DLC for titles in your library).

Reaction to the redesign has been mixed, with some testers praising the new look and functionality while others find it too mobile-like compared to the previous design.
