Seamus Blackley, a co-creator of Xbox, openly suggested the division is “being sunsetted,” citing Sharma’s lack of gaming background as evidence of Microsoft’s strategic shift.

“They don’t say that, but that’s what’s happening,” Blackley told Windows Central, suggesting Sharma’s role will be to gradually wind down Xbox’s operations. This sentiment underscores the anxiety felt by many within the gaming community, particularly after Microsoft’s recent moves, including the planned removal of Xbox game exclusives from platforms like PlayStation.

However, Nadella directly contradicted this narrative during an internal Q&A with Sharma, reaffirming Microsoft’s commitment to gaming. He emphasized gaming’s position as the largest entertainment category and outlined plans to expand beyond traditional console gaming.
